On 20 July 2026, the Office of the Economic Adviser (OEA) under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) released the revised Index of Core Industries (ICI) with base year 2022–23, replacing the long-running 2011–12 series. The release carried the provisional ICI for June 2026 along with a back series covering 38 months, from April 2023 to May 2026. The overhaul does three things at once. It adds iron ore as the ninth core industry, taking the basket from eight sectors to nine.
