Skyroot Aerospace put India’s first privately built rocket into a 450 km orbit. On 18 July 2026, Hyderabad-based Skyroot Aerospace launched Vikram-1 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, on its maiden orbital mission — Mission Aagaman (Sanskrit for “arrival”). The four-stage, all-carbon-composite rocket injected its payloads into a roughly 450 km low Earth orbit about fifteen minutes after liftoff, making India only the third country, after the United States and China, where a private enterprise has demonstrated orbital launch capability.
