How can we fully concentrate while studying?

Train is running @ 70+kmph. I’m listening to music with full volume while writing this answer. But, still I’m able to hear tadak tadak tadak tadak sounds made by the tracks.

Uff.. very uncomfortable, people are fighting for seats. Lot of quarreling. Yeah! I’m in general compartment.

It’s 12 Am now and I don’t know who this guy is. He is reading continuously for 3 hours and literally forgot everything around him.

I don’t know anything about him but I can deduce few things

He is reading Arihant-JEE book.. may be a JEE aspirant ! Exam is on this Sunday right?

I guess he got only one shot remaining. The moment which he’s waiting is one step away. He is not ready to let that moment slip away.

See, when you want to get something, All these lame excuses like forgetting things, remembering things, concentration problems doesn’t matter for you.

These are just reasons created by you to justify your future failure.

When you are in comfort zone every small thing becomes distraction for you. Get out of that comfort zone.

Try to study even though you’re constantly being distracted by things. Make discomfort your new friend. Then you’ll be able to study 2 times greater when you are in your comfort zone.

If you have the concentration skills, you can study even in the noisiest environment.

The question that remains is how to concentrate better.

I was told, “concentration isn’t an inbuilt skill; it’s an art to be learned.”

Your zeal and enthusiasm to study is what brings alive concentration. If you miss them, you get distracted.

Ever wondered why you watch your favorite movie without blinking your eyes — with concentration — not missing a single dialogue but find it hard to extend the same towards your study material?

If doing something excites you, you do it again and again without getting diverted from it. It satisfies your soul and that brings concentration. But, if you can’t get excited by the thought of studying, you won’t be able to get a lot out of it.

You need to first love the concept of reading and concentration will follow on its own.


It also helps that your mind is free, has space to take in what Is to be put in it. You can’t stuff a filled bag with more potatoes. They resist to go in. And, that is exactly what happens with brain. You can read to a certain extent and that’s it. You need to refuel it and give it what is called b-r-e-a-k

I suggest these techniques which have proven to be successful for many students:

  • Meditation

Meditate for atleast 30-60 minutes in a day. Free your mind; lose the junk from your brain space and lighten your head weight. It will keep you rejuvenated and prompts you to concentrate for longer durations.

  • Exercise

It doesn’t have to be a strenuous workout, but a moderate one with walking or jogging for a minimum of 20 minutes in a day. Exercising has positive effects on metabolism and actively pumps your heart. It’s important that your body feel active, so that your brain does.

  • Sleep

Seriously, everytime you feel distracted, close your eyes and slip into the dreamy world. After few days, you will find that your concentration has not only risen up a notch but also that you don’t feel tired or exhausted after your studying schedul. A minimum of 6-8 hours sleep in a complete necessity for the information to get accessed into brain.


There is lot more that can be added to your study to improvise it, but you need to first get your concentration in grip.

For the first week, it could be two hours, but with regular application of the so mentioned techniques, within a period of 2-3 weeks, you will see the improvemen.

Yes, it takes time and you have to be patient.
